A CISA certification holder proves expertise in Information Systems Auditing Process, Governance and Maintenance of IT, Information Systems Acquisition, Development and Implementation, Information Systems Operations and Business Resilience, and Protection of Information Assets.


A candidate should meet the following requirements in order to apply for the CISA exam.


CISA Certification Requirements:


  1. CISA Examination

  2. Adhere to the Code of Professional Ethics (Code of Professional Ethics | IS/IT Certifications | ISACA)

  3. Adhere to the CPE Policy 

  4. Comply with the Information Systems Auditing Standards (ITAF, 3rd Edition)

  5. Minimum Work Experience* (5 years)

*Experience waivers are available for a maximum of three (3) years.


Exam details

The CISA Exam consists of five domains.

  1. Domain 1: Information System Auditing Process (21%)

  2. Domain 2: Governance and Management of IT (17%) 

  3. Domain 3: Information Systems Acquisition, Development, and implementation (12%)

  4. Domain 4: Information Systems Operations and Business Resilience (23%) 

  5. Domain 5: Protection of Information Assets (27%)

Time Taken To Prepare For The CISA Exam:


The typical preparation time is 4 months for professionals with experience in Auditing and IT Security and about 6-8 months for entry-level professionals.
